Thameside Primary School Mural
“A school mural to celebrate the opening of a new reading hut in a primary school playground.”
There was such great energy around this project. After introducing myself in the school assembly and discussing some ideas, I went back to the studio to come up with a design they could be proud of. With a finished design I began painting. Whilst painting I had kids coming up giving feedback and watching every lunch time to see the mural grow! The kids were so sweet, and were so excited to tell me all about their favourite colours, books they'd read and they were eager to help keep leaves out of the work area! I really wanted to make something special for them.
I worked with the paint manufacturer, Britannia paints, to bring a lot of colour to this piece. By having imagination overflowing and spilling out of the gazebo we hoped to draw children in during their break times and to make their summer reading sessions a real treat. It's great at the end of a long week on your hands and knees to step back and see what you imagined, out there for the kids to share. We had some great feedback from the teachers and parents too and they've had me back to do other projects on the neighbouring park (Link to Arrive soon!)
